Affiliate Corner: Q&A with Mary Wilson, Director of Sales – Central Texas Region, Visit Fort Worth

Who do you represent and how long have you been in your industry?

I’ve had the privilege of working with Visit Fort Worth from our Austin remote office for more than 14 years and I love it! My journey in the hospitality industry spans over 33 years, with a strong focus on the Texas association market.

What is your most memorable event?

One of the most memorable events of my career was when our city hosted the TSAE New Ideas Annual Conference in Fort Worth in 2023. We were able to showcase what an amazing city we have to offer, and we received such great accolades from the attendees.

What is your biggest challenge in your job?

The hospitality industry is dynamic and filled with challenges. One of the most difficult aspects is navigating the ever-changing climate our associations face. It’s crucial to maintain open communication with our clients to understand their meeting objectives and the challenges they encounter. By doing so, we create the ideal environment for their success.

Tell us one thing we may not know about you.

While my heart lies in the hospitality sector, my career began in radio as a DJ in Houston. My passion for music and singing brings me joy and keeps me grounded; music is truly the rhythm of my life.

What trends or challenges do you see shaping the future of your field?

As I look to the future, I find myself contemplating the impact of technology and artificial intelligence on our industry. The new tools emerging require us to adapt and evolve in our communications and operations. Staying relevant necessitates continuous education and a willingness to embrace change. While many of the advancements will enhance our work, the pace of change can be daunting.

In your opinion, what role do affiliate members play in the growth and success of the association industry?

Being a member of TSAE for over 30 years and serving on committees and on the board has been immensely rewarding and made me realize just how important the affiliate role is in the association industry. Affiliates play a crucial role in TSAE, collaborating with our clients to forge lasting relationships. Our knowledge of hospitality trends is imperative to share with our associations to help better understand how we can work together and build trust. Affiliates are key in helping to generate revenue to TSAE, which further strengthens our exposure and commitment to the association industry. TSAE is instrumental in facilitating these important bonds.
