Destination: Northwest Texas at its Best

Cadillac Ranch in Amarillo.

Put Lubbock at the center of this regional hub and you’ve got a slew of northwest Texas towns in which to enjoy some business – mixed with pleasure. Emphasis on mix. Looking for a tony tavern where the barkeeps know their stuff or a distillery trip with Caribbean flair (in Texas?!)? Plan your next mixology-based mixer at one of these fine dens of the drink!

Midland: The Blue Door

A popular place for local mixers already, this upscale parlor changes its craft cocktail menu seasonally to keep things fresh – literally and figuratively. Bevs on its recent spring menu included the Hendrick’s gin-infused “Rose Colored Glasses,” featuring lemon, Giffard Black Rose and hibiscus bitters, and the adorably named “Tropic like It’s Hot,” a tequila-lime-pineapple party in your mouth. Your attendees need not go for craft, though. The Blue Door does up all the classics for those who like things old fashioned – or an actual Old Fashioned.

Amarillo: Taste Dessert Bar

Cocktails and desserts? Yes, please! This sweet spot in Amarillo satisfies cravings for cocktails – and/or cupcakes – with aplomb. Need someone to help you determine the best wine to pair with a salted caramel cheesecake? No worries, Taste offers its service and expertise –and space! – for private parties and events. They’re also happy to create custom menus for planners to consider. www.tastedessert.com

Lubbock: Pinkerton’s Distillery

Lucas Pinkerton is not only a proud Texas native, he’s a proud master distiller whose culinary and brewing exploration led him – as so many things can – to rum! Made with Texas cane molasses and a whole lotta love, you’ll find his various products in stores and bars around town, but he’d be happy to host your private group on a tour of his operation. www.pinkertonsdistillery.com

Odessa: The Hemingway

For a smokier take on an executive evening out, consider The Hemingway when in Odessa, where the staff is happy to help you select certifiably good-to-pair-with fine wine and craft beer. Live music – jazz, blues – rounds out the experience. Great place to pick up cigar-centric gifts for giveaways as well. www.thehemingwayofmidland.com
