TSAE Empowering Associations, Driving Our Own Strategic Plan

LAST YEAR THE 2022-2023 TSAE Board of Directors spent two days meeting to create a strategic plan for TSAE. It may surprise you to learn that it has been some time since TSAE has adopted a true Strategic Plan. For a while now, TSAE leadership has been working on strategic initiatives – project-based goals to address various areas of the organization.

Following the pandemic, the TSAE Board of Directors felt it important for TSAE to create and adopt a formal strategic plan to assist our volunteer leadership and staff going into the next 3 – 5 years. As we begin our second year with this new plan, we wanted to share the culmination of the board’s collective efforts and vision. Developed by the forward-thinking minds of our esteemed Board of Directors, this plan is designed to steer our association toward a brighter and more impactful future.

While TSAE 2022-2023 Board Chair Jodi Ann Ray, CAE, CCE, IOM, President & CEO with the Texas Society of CPAs, talked about this from the main stage at New Ideas 2022, I wanted to also provide a refresher of the four strategic areas of work that are serving as the foundation of TSAE’s journey: Understanding Member Needs to Create Value & Drive Growth, Empowering Innovation Through Risk-Taking, Leveraging Data to Align Priorities with Capacity, and Advancing DEI to Foster Community & Member Success.

1: Understanding Member Needs to Create Value & Drive Growth

Our members are at the core of everything we do. TSAE recognizes that your success is our success. To create value and ensure continuous growth for our community, TSAE must be in tune with your evolving needs, challenges, and aspirations. This area emphasizes the importance of engaging in active communication with our members, conducting in-depth surveys, and organizing town halls to gather invaluable feedback.

By fostering an open dialogue, TSAE can identify emerging trends, understand shifting priorities, and develop tailored solutions that address the specific demands of our diverse membership. TSAE is committed to providing the resources, services, and programs that drive our member’s successes and elevates their impact in our state and beyond.

2: Empowering Innovation Through Risk-Taking

Innovation and progress go hand in hand. TSAE recognizes that in an ever-changing landscape, embracing risk-taking is essential for staying relevant and resilient. This area encourages a culture of experimentation, where calculated risks are welcomed and where lessons from both successes and setbacks are learned.

By encouraging our staff and members to think creatively and explore new avenues, TSAE aims to foster a dynamic environment that encourages the cultivation of groundbreaking ideas and practices. TSAE is committed to supporting initiatives that have the potential to revolutionize our industry, enhance the experience of our members, and solidify TSAE’s position as a pioneering association.

3: Leveraging Data to Align Priorities with Capacity

Data is the compass that guides our decisions and actions. As TSAE ventures into new territories and constantly evaluates our offerings, it is crucial to base our choices on well-informed insights. This area underscores our commitment to harnessing the power of data analytics to drive strategic planning, resource allocation, and performance evaluation.

TSAE will implement new processes that enable us to collect and analyze relevant data efficiently. By doing so, we can better understand the impact of our initiatives, optimize our resource allocation, and ensure that our capacity aligns with the demands of our ambitious goals.

4: Advancing DEI to Foster Community & Member Success

Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) are not just buzzwords but essential principles that will define the future of our association. We believe that a thriving community is an inclusive one, where every individual is respected, heard, and empowered to contribute fully.

This area reflects our pledge to foster an environment that celebrates diversity and actively promotes equity. We will actively seek opportunities to increase diversity within our leadership, committees, and membership, ensuring that the voices of all backgrounds are represented in our decision-making processes.

Moreover, we will prioritize educational programs, training sessions, and workshops that promote awareness and understanding of these issues, not only within our association but also across the broader community we serve. By fostering an inclusive culture, we will unleash the untapped potential of our collective strength and accelerate member success.

As we continue our work on this exciting journey, I extend my heartfelt gratitude to our visionary Board of Directors for crafting this comprehensive Strategic Plan. I also thank our dedicated staff and passionate members for their unwavering commitment to our association’s mission. These strategic areas will not only call on our Board of Directors to continue to move this needle forward, but we will have volunteer opportunities to assist us in the projects falling under all of these areas. Keep an eye out for these micro-volunteering opportunities.

Together, we will transform challenges into opportunities, and TSAE will stand tall as a beacon of progress, innovation, and inclusivity within our state and beyond.
